It is annoying that my tale, like that of many others the past year and a half, is not one filled with more joy. But I am still alive and able to correct course. There is no doubt the pandemic has taken its toll. As a writer, the additional time on my hands was welcomed to begin with. Surviving the pandemic has been one thing, but to have to also watch this country turn on itself over a bunch of lies has been absolute madness.
There has been some reluctance on my part to discuss what has really happened in this country during the pandemic. It's all been a bit much and we have all been forced to bear witness. While some of us have been watching reality play out others have been living a deadly fiction that was created for them by those they trusted.
I don't know what you believe happened the last year and a half, but what I watched unfold was Trump, Fox News, and the Republicans decide to jump even further into bed with the Russians. From my perspective, this is treason the likes of which this country has never seen.
Republicans then decided to use the blind loyalty of their followers, who believe everything created by Fox News or similar news sources, to not only kill Americans with their lies about Covid but to double down on their lies and deception when it came to the election results. Something we all saw coming because Trump laid out the groundwork for his fake election complaints for five years. And now they have created state laws to suppress the vote and to even overturn election results without proof. Madness!
The third strike has been their lies about the vaccine. Again, it is all political. Biden set the Fourth of July as a target to get 70 % of Americans vaccinated, while Fox News and Republicans were willing to cost more people their lives in order to prevent Biden from reaching that goal. A goal meant to help all Americans, no matter how dense they may be.
Only now, as the Fourth has passed and the Delta variant of the virus spreads wildly amongst the unvaccinated, have some Republicans started to advise their ignorant followers to get vaccinated.
You would think that with all the information available to people that these three evil acts could not be put upon Americans, but when Russia decided to make Trump their puppet they could not have imagined how willing he would be to try and help them destroy our country.
I have avoided writing about this period of time because we are still stuck in it and it makes me so fucking angry. Maybe that is why I have to write about it.
While we were all trying to live our lives Russia was busy winning a war against us. And half of America was too dense to know they were helping Russia as they waved a confederate flag on the US Capital or rooted for the fake patriots from their homes. Unfortunately, the ignorant will not listen to the truth unless it comes from their favorite poisoned chalice (Fox News or Newsmax). Before the insurrection, I used to tune into Fox News or visit their website every once in a while just to see how they covered things. Their willingness to twist Free Speech into a way to radicalize my fellow citizens means they cannot be trusted to provide the news. If I tune in now it is to see how the treason freak show is going and if it will affect me and the rest of the country in any way.
Mike Judge and Etan Cohen predicted this in a way. We have become an Idiocracy that just so happens to have the most powerful military in the world.
We are no longer a people unified in our desire to make this country a better place for the future. Instead, we are a divided nation that distrusts his or her neighbor because of their views on what we are going through. This is how Russia won a war against us without firing a shot. We are a country divided and made smaller in the eyes of the world because of these past few years. And the only way to escape this is if the Republicans and Fox News are stopped from committing more treason on behalf of Russia.
If I was to fault the Democrats it would be for being too soft. You can feed the poor and save the planet while kicking the asses of all these pathetic traitors. It's not like there isn't proof of their treason. We all live together in this country but we don't have to enable the ignorance in the Republican masses so they can continue their treasonous ways. Call it out every time it rears its ugly head and shove Russia back into their oil-loving, melting permafrost sinkhole.
There, that felt good to get off my chest. Now back to updating In the Wake of Newton so I can re-release it before August.
